Romberg Arte Contemporanea presents the solo show of artist Carlo Marchetti, curated by Italo Bergantini and Gaia Conti. “Beyond Black” will open on Sunday, March 2, with an accompanying unpublished story by Antonella Paciolla. Part of “Stories told on a Sunday”, a series of seven events where art and storytelling converge—this exhibition marks a new chapter in Marchetti’s artistic path.

“Beyond Black” is a journey into the fundamental nature of material and form. His works are raw yet intentional, fragments that suggest presence without ever fully revealing it. They resonate with a deep, ancient energy. Wood, rubber, wool, fabric, and sand, materials that appear throughout his practice, become symbols of grounding and transformation.

His art is an experience—something to be felt, heard, even breathed in. Matter and sound intertwine, guiding the viewer from the absorbing depth of black to the quiet neutrality of gray, and finally to gold, shimmering like an epiphany. Color unfolds in layers, transforming chaos into harmony, turning each piece into a tactile memory, a language distilled to its essence.

Carlo’s approach is one of subtraction, a process of stripping away the superfluous to reveal a perfect balance between presence and absence. His alchemical rooms are thresholds: doors that invite the gaze inward, windows that open onto new perspectives. The works dissolve into the gallery’s vast wall, tracing a suspended boundary between two realms—the surface of consciousness and the depths of the self.

These works are not defined by their material alone, but by how we perceive them, how we reinterpret and discover new meaning within them. Where intuition gathers fragments, thought weaves them into form, creating connections only art can reveal.

Matter exists in a state of perpetual transformation, shifts, dissolves, and reconfigures, breathing new life into what once was. The exhibition’s rhythm is guided by the symbolic essence of the five elements: Water, Fire, Air, Earth, and Metal/Spirit, interwoven in a dynamic equilibrium of harmony and tension, echoing the deep strata of time and history.

This is an invitation to move beyond perception, to surrender to what lies beneath the surface—awakening a dialogue not only with the artwork but with the deeper, hidden layers of the self, the elusive realm of the unconscious. Here, black expands, fractures, and reshapes itself, unfolding into an ever-shifting landscape of meaning. And beyond the black, as shadow fades, what remains is light.

L’esposizione fa parte del progetto 'I Racconti della domenica', sette appuntamenti in cui arte e narrazione si incontrano.

"Beyond Black” è il capitolo più recente della ricerca di Carlo Marchetti, un’indagine che riscopre l’essenza della materia e della forma. Le sue opere sono strutture primarie, frammenti che evocano presenze senza mai delinearle in modo netto, ma vibranti di una potenza arcaica: legno, gomma, lana, tessuti, e sabbia, elementi ricorrenti nella sua ricerca, simboli di radicamento e trasformazione.

La sua arte si odora e si ascolta, un’esperienza sensoriale in cui materia e suono si intrecciano. Dal nero che assorbe, al grigio che accoglie e accompagna, fino all’oro che vibra come un’epifania, il colore si stratifica e trasforma il caos in ordine, rendendo ogni opera una memoria tattile, un linguaggio visivo essenziale.

Marchetti lavora per sottrazione, liberando i lavori da ogni eccesso e creando un perfetto bilanciamento tra pieni e vuoti. Le sue stanze alchemiche sono varchi, porte che invitano lo sguardo a entrare, e finestre che si aprono su nuove prospettive. Le opere si fondono con la grande parete della galleria tracciando un confine sospeso tra due dimensioni: la superficie della coscienza e la profondità dell’Io.

Come un ponte tra due mondi, non è la materia a definirle, ma il nostro sguardo, la nostra capacità di reinventare e cogliere in essi nuovi significati possibili. Là dove l’intuizione coglie frammenti, il pensiero si solidifica in forme che solo l’arte riesce a intrecciare.

La materia si rinnova, si sovrappone, si dissolve e si ricompone in oggetti ritrovati, in nuova vita. Il ritmo della mostra è scandito dalla forza simbolica dei cinque elementi - Acqua, Fuoco, Aria, Terra e Metallo/Spirito - in un'armonia di equilibri e contrasti che evocano la stratificazione del tempo e della storia.

L'invito è superare la percezione iniziale e a lasciarsi attraversare da ciò che si cela dietro l'apparenza, innescando un dialogo non solo con l’opera, ma anche con noi stessi e, in particolare, con quella parte di noi che chiamiamo inconscio. Qui il nero si espande, si frantuma, si rigenera, moltiplicando le prospettive di senso. E al di là del nero, quando l’ombra si dissolve, ciò che resta è luce.
